No, Controla is an independent tool that allows you to centrally monitor and manage your self-hosted n8n instances. There is no legal or organizational connection to n8n GmbH. We are an independent project that aims to simplify the management of your n8n instances.
Yes, there is a Community Edition that is free and open source. It offers all basic features for 1 instance and must be self-hosted. For advanced features and unlimited instances, there is Hosted Ops.
Monthly plans can be canceled with a 30-day notice period at the end of the month, annual plans after a 12-month term.
Hosted Ops
No, n8n instances must be self-hosted, only the Controla application is provided, with which n8n instances can be integrated via API key.
Hosted Ops includes standard support for Controla.
This means:
- Support via email or ticket
- Response time within 2 business days
- Assistance with:
- Setup and configuration of Controla
- Problems or errors in Controla
- Alerts, backups and status displays
- False alarms or connection problems
Controla is a management and monitoring tool for n8n instances. It helps you keep track of your instances, detect errors, and manage backups.
In short: We support the operation and monitoring of your n8n instance – not the content or logic of your automations.
No, we only offer the management solution Controla, hosting n8n itself is your own responsibility.
Features
Controla continuously monitors your instances. If an instance is no longer reachable, it is displayed in the dashboard. In Hosted Ops, you also receive an immediate email notification.
In Hosted Ops, you can configure automatic backups. Your workflows are then regularly exported and stored securely.
Currently only Google Drive is available. Support for additional storage destinations such as SFTP, Dropbox or S3 is already planned and coming soon.
Currently there is only email as a channel, but other channels are planned for Q1 2026 and will then be activated in the Hosted Ops package at no additional cost.
Yes, in the Hosted Ops package you can export workflows and import them into other instances. This is ideal for transferring workflows from a staging environment to production. The Community Edition only offers the ability to export one or more workflows.
Currently there is only one instance user per account.

Technology & Installation
The Community Edition is provided as a Docker container and can be easily hosted on your own server via Docker Compose. A detailed guide can be found in our documentation. Hosted Ops requires no installation. Simply create an account here and get started.
Yes, the Community Edition is designed for self-hosting. You have full control over your data. Hosted Ops is a cloud-only solution where we handle hosting and maintenance for you.
Not currently, as advanced infrastructure and services are needed to provide all Hosted Ops features. However, a self-hostable version may come.
Not yet, but this feature is planned for an Enterprise Edition coming in 2026.
API keys are stored encrypted in our database and cannot be viewed by us or our staff. We also adhere to common security standards when developing and operating modern software solutions.
